When planing you time, make sure you add these in:

  • Travel: To and from. What will you be riding in; bus, car, plane, boat? Rush Hour? Parking? Elevator or stairs? How far do you have to walk from parking?

  • Setting up: Gathering materials? Laying items out?

  • Cleaning up: Putting items away?

  • Interruptions: Kids? Boss? Phone? Friends? Family?

  • The unexpected.

  • Break time.
The list goes on!

Time Management - MakeTime Concrete

So in order to make time management work, you gotta be able to see time. So lets compare it to a closet where it looks like a bomb has gone off.

The Cluttered Closet:
Restricted amount of space.
There is way more junk than space.
Everything is jammed and cramp packed.
You can't find what you need.

The Cluttered Schedule:
Restircted amount of time.
There are more things to do than there is time.
To do things are penciled in unorganized.
Its difficult to see what is on the to do list.

Calculation is the key. Practice this, how long will it take me to do this, write the actual time it took for future reference.

Try this:

Pick 3 task that you avoid doing.
Make a chart:

Estimate Time Log

|Task #1:|Estimated time you think how long it will take|Actual Time|
|Task #2:|Estimated time you think how long it will take|Actual Time|
|Task #3:|Estimated time you think how long it will take|Actual Time|

Now do this for a week with your planer.

Now compare, is there a pattern? How much are you off? What was fast? What took more time?

Now try it for a MONTH!!!

Time Management - pt. 2: Identfy the Errors

Whats holding you back? When you have identified on whats holding you back then you can start the process.

  1. Technical Errors - Skills that you haven't learned that are holding you back. Like setting the right amount of time to get organized. If you don't know how to properly set the estimated time to get organize, this can create a flaw. Are you the person for this job? Get some one that loves organizing or some one who is just controlling to help you out. Can you handle how big and complex a task this might be? Don't do it all at once, start small. Start for an hour for a week, then gradually increase it by week or time you are comfortable with.
  2. External Errors - Enviromental errors that are beyond your control. Health; if you are not well, then slow down, don't drain you energy. Stay healthy, get sleep. Transition; getting married, did you move up the job ladder, got kids on the way? Going through transition can throw you way off. Other people's needs. STOP BEING A PUSH OVER, learn to say no or F' Off! What ever is better for you.
  3. Psychological Errors - these are the internal errors that interfere with our lives. Unclear goals and priorities; in other words walking in a cave with out a light. Learn to plan! Write what you need to do. Fear of failure or success; if you do know your goals and you're just putting them off, then you might be afraid of the outcome. Will there be the results that you had in mind? The only way to know is to try it!

These are just some of the many errors that are listed in the book, to see them all you gotta make the time to purchase the book and read it.

Time Management-Make a list.

Step One - Make a list

Make a list of what you want to do or what you would like to do during your free time, to make you life fulfilled and happier.

  • Draw more
  • Write more
  • Work on more art projects
  • Hang out with friends more
  • Work out more

Draw some representations of these ideas and put it in your room on the wall.

Take the list you just created and put it somewhere where you will see it everyday (paper clip it to your planner). You can make multiple list and put them in different places.

Heres where I put them:
  • The mirror in my room
  • Top of my dresser
  • In side my dresser drawer where I keep my boxer briefs
  • On my car horn
  • PC note book
