Getting my grind on...new downtown sk8 park

Houstonist.com

No, we're not talking about your favorite way to dance, we're talking about the grand opening of Houston's newest and best skate park, The Lee & Joe Jamail Skate Park.

Built in Eleanor Tinsley Park, right off the Sabine Street Bridge and in full view of our gorgeous skyline, this park covers 30,000 square feet and is the first in-ground skate park in our region. It was designed by the premiere skate park firm, Grindline out of Seattle, WA.

Another entity that was integral in getting this park built for Houston was PUSH, Public Use Skate Parks for Houston. PUSH is a grassroots organization that offered their help and resources to the powers that be about skateboarding issues in Houston.

The Lee and Joe Jamail Skate Park is a city facility sponsored by the Houston Parks & Recreation Department and all city park rules and a few new ones apply.

The skate park's grand opening begins at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday June 1st and goes on until 5 p.m. while the park will remain open until 10pm.
